I appreciate the simplicity and approachability of Sherry’s book to creating everyday rituals. It was a wonderful reminder of how any activity from cooking, taking a bath to listening music can become a ritual and sacred when you set the intention.  The layout of the book is easy to read and perfect for being able to pick and choose what ritual to adopt in your life. I like jumping around when I read books and with this you can do just that without having to read the chapter prior, it reads like a recipe book which is genius!

I would encourage anyone either going through a life transition or not who does not currently have rituals to making life activities more sacred to grab a copy and adopt a ritual or two to make your own. And if you do have rituals it’s a great resource to add more rituals in order to enrich your life.

Whether you are looking to make subtle enhancements, or create a completely new flow, 2017 is the year to make changes to your San Diego home. A major trend we are seeing capture the interest of many homeowners is creating an outdoor living space.

Builders and buyers have essentially created a new room by embracing indoor-outdoor living. Kitchens are now extending beyond the typical interior and second living rooms are sprouting out for San Diegans to enjoy the glorious sunsets.Televisions being brought outside as well as wood-burning fire pits and other amenities.

Now is the time to make the move towards outdoor living in San Diego. Trulia predicts ten interior design styling trends that will shape this year’s homes, and some of these can be applied to your newest outdoor living addition. Here are a few ways to translate these trends outdoors

1. While we have seen a San Diego homeowner purchase outdoor patio seating for a family to eat dinner outside, why not bring the entire kitchen out there? Wood fire ovens and refrigerators are a great way to create a second kitchen outside. Matte finished appliances in dark hues will be replacing the stainless steal look this year and can give a dramatic dimension to your outdoor living space.

2. Jewel tones are a new trend that can add warmth to match the San Diego weather outside. When designing your outdoor home space, consider colors like emerald and amethyst that will create a unique pop.

3. When thinking of hardware to add you’re your outdoor room, think shiny metal finishes. Polished brass and bronze knobs are making a comeback and can be the finishing touch of any outdoor room. This can also be applied to the lighting fixtures you go with outside. Go big and bold.

4. Marble surfaces are turning basic rooms into chic spaces and this can be applied to your outdoor living space. Outdoor marble water features like fountains, waterfalls, and rain showers can add a romantic ambiance as well as negate outdoor noise.

Picture this- your dinner tonight could be cooked prepared and eaten all while watching the sunset over the Pacific. Sounds ideal, right? San Diego residents can reap major benefits of creating an outdoor living space; so don’t wait to jump on these 2017 interior design trends!

Favorite Picks From the 2017 Interior Design Trend Forecast

One of the best parts about the change in seasons are all of the new home decor trends we can play with. And there’s no better time to take advantage of these trends and renew your aesthetic than while transitioning into the new year.

2017 is shaping up to be a year of natural sustainability in the interior design world. From an influx of organic materials to the restoration of vintage furniture, more and more homes are getting stylish and sustainable upgrades inspired by Mother Nature.

For inspiration on how to incorporate some of these ideas into your own home, check out some of our favorite trends from the 2017 forecast.

Jewel Tones

Rich and vibrant colors inspired by natural gems are popping up all over the place this season. Consider incorporating tones like emerald greens, sapphire blues, and amethyst purples to give your decor a sparkling upgrade.

Velvet Furniture

Soft, plush and every bit regal, this classic material is making a contemporary comeback in the new year. Not sure how to make it work with your aesthetic? Well, as it turns out, velvet pairs absolutely perfectly with the jewel tones we just mentioned.

Upholstered Headboards

Just in time for the cozy season, upholstered headboards will be making waves in the coming months. The beauty of this trend is that there are so many different variations that there’s a perfect one for virtually any style sensibility. And not only are these on trend, but a solid headboard is also great Feng Shui, representing support in your life, so you’ll be extra protected heading into the new year.

Furry Furniture

Equal parts fun and sophisticated, faux-fur furniture is a great way to add a little more character to a room while maximizing cozy comfort. But if you’re not quite ready to commit to an entire piece of furry furniture, a soft and fuzzy throw pillow or blanket is a great way to play with the look without the commitment.

Marble Coffee Tables

Looking for ways to infuse more elegance into your space? Look no further. Marble coffee tables are taking 2017 by storm and we’re all better for it. Whether you invest in a large statement piece or nest a few together, they’ll make any space that much more glamorous.

Restored Furniture

The new year is all about renewal, so it’s fitting that reused, repurposed and restored furniture are gaining popularity. Layering vintage pieces with new items is a surefire way to add depth, nostalgia and visual intrigue to your overall look.

Organic Materials

More and more homes are bringing the outdoors inside by incorporating organic materials. Visually warm, soothing, and full of good vibes, integrating natural elements into your decor will keep you grounded and happy as you transition into the new year.

San Diego Spanish Bungalow

This Spanish bungalow nestled into the San Diego neighborhood of Kensington was abandoned for 17 years before Ian and Catie took it under their wing. After undertaking some extensive remodeling on their own, the couple was referred to me by their realtor Janell O’Meara to put the final furniture and decor touches on the home in preparation for sale.

It was important to Catie and Ian that the house feel like a warm, inviting home. They hoped that with the right staging, decor, and energy work they would be able to find the perfect owners for the house they invested so much time and care into, and they looked to me to fulfill that hope.

I started by pairing vintage pieces with new items to connect the past with the future, which adds visual intrigue and depth to the overall design while promoting a complete, well-rounded aesthetic.

The couple’s friends at Often Wander gave them these lovely handmade candles, which served to enhance the essence and warm feel of the space at the same time bringing the feel-good vibes of close friendships into the home.

In the same vein, beautiful art from a dear friend of theirs was incorporated, contributing even more love from supportive friends to the house’s energy

Speaking of energy, as a Classical Feng Shui and Reiki Practitioner, you know I had to work some energetic mojo into the mix to really propel the sale.

Walls, ceilings, floors and furniture absorb the emotional energy of those who’ve been in the home. After some time, the rooms’ vibrations begin to match these emotional vibrations, influencing the feelings and emotional well-being of new occupants.

To make sure future residents don’t bear the weight of residual negative energy, I conducted several space-clearing practices.

Right before the house went onto the market, I cleared its past energies with Reiki practices and set intentions to attract a new owner that would love and take care of the home while being able to thrive and feel supported living there.

Additionally, by conducting a small yet powerful ritual with Ian, Catie, their 18-month-old daughter and their dog, we worked together to further release the home energetically.

Finally, I took advantage of one of my favorite Feng Shui secrets, placing a brass horse in a precise location to encourage a quick and easy sale.

Up went the house on the market, in came the first offer, and on day four we went into escrow!

Meeting the new owners, I knew instantly that they were the ones meant to live here. They were so in love with the home and so happy to be moving in.

After escrow closed, the new owners, Melanie and Ryan, invited me to a closing party with the realtor Janell O’Meara, Ian, Catie, their daughter, and the bank. It was a complete and total lovefest as everyone was so happy with their role in this process.

I couldn’t have asked for a richer or more fulfilling experience. This is truly the stuff I live for and I can’t wait to do more!

Design Trend Tuesday

One of the trends that I’m in total agreement on is bringing real furniture into the bathroom, it makes the space feel more cozy and warm. It’s a space I would enjoy getting ready in in the morning. The above photo comes from the bathroom of Lauren Conrad. I love how she has a lounge chair and dresser in the space and it’s a real dresser that has not been made into a vanity with a built-in sink. Another great tip is to bring in non-bathroom accessories like light fixtures and mirrors. Use the same pieces you would use in say a living room. Get the look at our shop!

The wheel turns to Spring

Nature is a major influencer in my designs. Right now I’m enjoying the blossoms on fruit trees and the bulbs popping through the earth. Introducing a simple pink throw is a great way to introduce the season of spring into our homes. The crane chandelier featuring an amber glow is a reminder that the sun is coming back to us.

My shadow shines in the dark

sept 28 2015 tom ford inspired

Black is classic and is being used in interiors more than ever. I was inspired by Tom Ford’s Autumn 2015 runway ensemble, it’s striking, strong and feminine. I love how Kelly Wearstler ruched her leather in the souffle bench. Don’t be fooled by Moooi’s burnt smoke dining chair with it’s dainty lines, it’s still strong as ever. Adding crystals to any space adds a beautiful energy, smoky quartz is especially wonderful since it has properties to clear a room of negative energy. Mixing soft curvy lines with straigh masculine  lines creates a ying yang balance in any room all the pieces here are a great example of that.
